Orange County’s Largest Mixer® is proud to spotlight exhibitor Sweet Xcape Cakes.
Rachel Melendrez, Lead Designer and Owner of Sweet Xcape Cakes said the Inland Empire Largest Mixer® was “probably the most significant thing I did for my business in 2010.” At the event, Victoria VanDamme, the Director of Food and Beverage with Savor / Ontario Convention Center, visited Rachel’s booth where they met for the first time. Two meetings later with Victoria, she announced to Rachel that OCC would like to add Sweet Xcape to their preferred vendor list. “Little unknown me along side two very prominent cake artists with the OCC serving the Inland Empire and Los Angeles Counties, I couldn’t have been more honored and flattered – what a huge, huge feather in my cap! Before exhibiting at the Largest Mixer®, I would spend hours contacting local venues and country clubs to introduce our product and cake artistry only to receive few returned phone calls, it was like pulling teeth! But after exhibiting at the Largest Mixer for the first time I had immediate and fantastic unexpected results, like our new vendor partnership with OCC and all the exciting cake projects in store for Sweet Xcape in 2011!” added Rachel.
So – it’s one thing to meet a great potential client, but we asked Rachel what her secret was to securing the OCC gig. “I believe in a very personal approach and that is the philosophy I’m using to build my business. It’s not just a cake – people are eating mycake, now that’s personal! I don’t just tell my clients to go find magazine clippings of what they like, I interview them, meet with them one-on-one for a cake tasting and consultation. This process ensures every attempt is made to get inside my client’s head to capture their vision for their special occasion cake,” she responded.
Our favorite example of Rachel’s cake artistry is this project she delivered to OCC for the Road to California quilting convention in January 2011 pictured below.
